We had nice weather in the 70's on October 11, followed almost immediately by snow that lasted for several days the next week. We held our breath, hoping that it would melt so that we could still plant our tulip bulbs. On Monday, October 28 it was finally warm enough and dry enough for us to get the bulbs into the ground! We found lots of angle worms just beneath the surface, always a big surprise to my first graders. What a great experience this is for them! They learn about the difference in temperature of the ground just below the surface from that of the air, and the need for some plants to experience cold temperatures in order to grow. They also gain real life experience with measurement and planting. It is a real thrill for them.
