The Blazer Family (team) of 8th graders at Cleveland Middle School has joined the Journey North adventure in hands-on scientific inquiry! On a cool sunny day, we formed teams and set out to plant tulips in the garden that Blazers have been creating and sustaining for several years on our school campus. This year, it became a Peace and Remembrance Garden, dedicated to peace and honoring the victims of terrorism around the world. When we heard about the Tulip Project, we knew that our garden would be a perfect place to incorporate an integrated study! We read a poem about planting bulbs, then set out to study and plant our own. In addition to the Red Emperor bulbs, we had many other colorful, varied bulbs donated to us by a genrous parent, and have incorporated them into our designs. Each team has taken soil samples (part of our ongoing study) and one of the variables is the consitency and nutrients of each of the 4 beds into which this year's JN bulbs were planted.
