We decided we needed to plant before going on Thanksgiving Break and waited as long as we could. We had had very unseasonably warm weather up to this last chance. We planted 80 bulbs in a memorial garden east of our school. Next year we will have to do a better job of preparing the ground and removing some Virginia clay! The bulbs were planted by the English learners 1-5th graders at Ashlawn. The students proved to be experienced tillers and shared stories of gardening and farming from their native cultures. We will graph predictions of color, blooming dates, % of successful blooming and predictions of height. Winter has finally arrived and the garden is blanketed with 8 inches of snow today!
