On 4 February 2003 I saw a large, perhaps 50, flock of robins scraping in fallen leaves, in the trees and, indeed, everywhere. I called a nearby friend who had also seen a large flock of robins several miles from my home. She has been seeing them throughout the winter.
I had no idea that robins overwintered in this area. How can they be a harbinger of spring, if they don't leave?
It is unknown whether these are our native robins or whether they are migrants from the north.
