Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 02/08/2003

Number: 1

During Dec & Jan on sunny days with temp above 55 F, we have seen Monarchs flying in our NO yds. All of our A. curassavica has been eaten by resulting larvae. On 22 Jan 2003,I photographed a Monarch larva that has come to rest on a Canna leaf while searching for food.
After two nights of slightly below freezing temps., we found the larva near the ground under a leaf of an 8 in. oak seedling. On 8 Feb. I photographed the crysalis. Temp was 41 F. We seem to have a resident population.
