Male blackbirds at Harvey Park lake today. Calling the trilling call not heard since last Spring and displaying their colors. No females in sight yet. One male working on a nest in the cattails. Sure hope there will be enough water in the lake to provide their habitat this summer. I imagine all the neighbors carrying a bucket at a time...Several strangers stopped to stare with me and talk about the drought, the short-sightedness of agricultural practices today...amazing what a bird song can do to the human mind, and heart.
