Robin (WAVE seen)

Date: 01/28/2003

Number: 1

We have had overwintering robins again this year in the area of the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens about four miles north of Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. I saw a flock about two weeks ago (during the bitter cold spell we were having. Also, on Tuesday.28.January.03 I counted a minimum of 30 in the parking lot at work (same location as above). Later that morning one of my colleagues asked me to come identify a hawk that was eating a bird it had captured. The hawk was a sharp-shinned hawk and its food was a robin -- feathers were everywhere!. I was able to stand twenty feet away and observe this event for over half an hour. The hawk was not the least bit bothered by my closeness while it consumed the robin.
