The Woodcock have returned and have begun their courtship flights just at dusk. The male flies upward into the sky, then spirals downward making a twittering noise as he goes. He comes to rest on the ground and after a few seconds he makes a low pitched sound that sounds like "peent". If he does not attract a mate he repeats the process within a few minutes.
