Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 03/18/2003

Number: 1

Many monarchs in the Victoria crossroads today! Squall line came thru about noon with frontal passage. Found five monarchs (we think all females) working over an acre of hay meadow with a good deal of A. viridis, 4:30. Watched two thru binoculars at twenty feet, faded, large females, got within six feet of another, not as faded. Saw another as we approached the patch, another half mile past, still another on the way home to Port Lavaca. Found many monarchs at the north end peninsula of the Lavaca Bay Causeway between 6 and 6:30. Watched eight different ones early on and then they all began to mill around, while it was still light, saw two we would call very, very faded. A spring day to dream about! Just couldn't find any clusters!
