Red-winged Blackbird (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/19/2003

Number: 1

Yippee!! Five days ago, we were hibernating under 100cm of snow....now, over half of the snow is gone, the sap is running, and at 3:30 pm on Tuesday March 18, the welcome song of the red-winged blackbirds was heard coming from my ponds. I am amazed. I was not expecting to hear from them so soon...they are the most welcome sign of spring in our part of Ontario.
