Robin (First HEARD singing)

Date: 03/24/2003

Number: 1

First robin song was heard this morning, March 24th, at dawn. This means Charlotte robins are back on territory, getting ready for the nesting season. The large flocks of robins seen across Charlotte this winter were not our local birds, but winter visitors probably from points further north. You can usually distinguish migrating robins from local robins at this time of year by watching their behavior: A single male who stays and sings all day long is almost certainly on its breeding territory.
