Today (Sat. March 22) I observed my first monarchs (6
individuals) in Baton Rouge, LA. Weather is perfect: clear skies, temps.70-72 degrees, slight westerly breezie. Milkweeds are still low and not quite ready for an onslaught of migrants. Most of our spring flowers(azaleas, camellias, wisteria, bridal wreath, pansies, petunias) are in or close to full bloom. Other butterflies observed are: Red Admiral,Eastern Comma, Goatweed Leafwing, Carolina Satyr, Cloudless Sulphur,Red-banded Hairstreak, Juvenal's Duskywing, and Common Checkered Skipper.
Most common species=Carolina Satyr.
