Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 03/27/2003

Number: 1

I reported to you early part of March having a bit of milkweed blooming and seeing a Monarch butterfly. She must have wintered over.
One butterfly has been around here all this month. Yesterday I discovered spider mites on my milkweed. In desperation I sprayed the bushes with Malathion - bad thing to do!! In so doing two small caterpillars emerged and needless to say, despite all my efforts, they both died. However, before I had a chance to cut back the plants this same butterfly landed on these same bushes several times and remained there for at least 10 minutes. I assume laying eggs but as yet I cannot identify eggs. I do have several other blooming milkweeds and will encourage her in every way I know how. This is fairly new to me and I am open for suggestions.
