A male Great Blue Heron has returned to the rookery established last year on six mile lake, muskoka. he is standing on the top nest in a tree with two other lower nests. the nest is about 30 feet up on a dead tree in the middle of a swamp. he looks like a lonely and cold bird waiting for the return of others and ice to melt. there is some open water around the edges of the swamp and the last 3 days have been warm +10c and sunny but with a cold wind. the ice on the lake has not started to melt yet and is about 18" thick with 18" of sluch on top.
