While attending a field trip with my fourth grade students on the Gulf of Mexico, we spotted a common loon approximately 4 miles from shore. It was (of course) wearing it's winter coat, and busy diving for it's lunch. I was thrilled to see this bird, as I have a cabin in Northern Minnesota, and have loved loons for as long as I could remember...
