recently, as i was staring down a round hole, shaved through a 235 acre sheet of ice, a sound began to tickle my subconscious. as the lilting intrusion became more prominent, i slowly became aware it was the trilling of red-winged blackbirds, wafting across from the adjacent marshes. ice fishing on lake beauty in the spring is an enjoyable recreation, made even more so with the realization that, soon, i will not be able to pursue this pleasurable pastime.
