Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 04/01/2003

Number: 1

I can't remember all the dates, but I had Monarchs up until three or so straight nights of 20s temps in February; one looked quite new. Then it was 2 or 3 weeks later that I saw what must have been a migrating Monarch, which was not new but not bedraggled. I live on a peninsula across the sound from Santa Rosa Island which fronts the Gulf. I don't see them come in from across the Gulf--if that's what some of them do. All I see are those who have gotten to the next piece of land and are looking for nectar. The lantanas had been killed by the same temps, so there was nothing for this early Monarch to eat.
I live in Gulf Breeze, which is on a peninsula between Pensacola and Santa Rosa Island.
