Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)

Date: 04/08/2003

Number: 1

Seventh period
We have found eight to ten monarch caterpillars that around two centimeters in length. We did not notice these caterpillars on Monday, April 7th, when we last checked the milkweed. They have eaten most of the milkweed. We have also found that some of the caterpillars have moved to a broccoli plant and they appear to be eating the pods of the plant. We are going to observe the caterpillars on the broccoli plant and see if they continue eating it. At this time there does not seem to be enough milkweed for all of the caterpillars.
