Joined by Lincoln and grandson Alex for three days monitoring remigrating monarchs near Cuero, DeWitt County, south-central Texas, total of 20 hours afield. TUES, 04/08/03, 22 monarchs observed, captured 8 of these (7 males, 1 female), faded to very faded, some to much tatter, clear, N wind 25 to 35 mph. WED, 04/09/03, 34 monarchs, captured 13 (12 males, 1 female), faded to very, very faded, N wind <20, loose clusters of males forming near sundown, calming. THUR, 04/10/03 (1.5 hours), 6 monarchs, captured 3 (1 coupled pair, 1 male), faded to very faded, some tatter, light breeze SSE, mostly clear. Left with them still arriving generally from south to north, third week of good numbers, more new eggs on native milkweeds, females still ovipositing.
