Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 04/07/2003

Number: 1

One butterfly was sighted by a friend in the afternoon. That is the first and only monarch we have seen this year. I went looking for eggs on Tuesday, April 8th, and found ONE, even though we have had perfect weather this week. At this time of year I have usually already found between 80 and 100 for our kindergarteners to raise and release. We had a late cold snap the last weekend of March with the temp. getting down to 28 degrees in our area. That nipped back the milkweed considerably, but it is now recovering. We also had EXTREMELY strong winds the first week of April. It appears to me that the monarchs were blown to the east of our central part of the state.
