Yesterday I saw the first mourning cloak butterfly of the season. The day was bright and sunny about 65 degrees F with a slight breeze. The butterfly flew about my gravel driveway landing on the split rail fence to bask in the sun. I checked the internet to identify it and found out that it overwinters as an adult in Minnesota.
