Our loon was visible from far away on one of the few local lakes which is long enough for takeoffs and deep enough for fishing. Human fishermen appreciate the fish stocking program here, and I expect the loon does too. We could walk up quite near, and observed him (?) tilting his head to look for fish below, then dipping his head in the water to look from below the surface for a while before diving. He looked at us, too, but mostly was interested in food. He will continue north soon--loons don't stay here.
