Tulips BLOOMED

Date: 04/18/2003

Number: 1

Everyone at the Albany Visitors Center has been anxiously watching all week to see when the tulips would bloom. A visiting class from Chatham Elementary School gathered around the tulip bed on Wednesday to see the very first red tulip bud. However, a very chilly Thursday slowed things down until today (Friday, April 18)when several of the 200 tulips planted by School #20 opened up to the beautiful, spring sunshine. I immediately called the teacher from School #20 and told her the great news! The children are on spring break, so it will be all our visitors to the city who will enjoy their tulip garden. The students do plan to return to the Visitors Center in early May. Our garden is blooming earlier than most tulip gardens in Albany. The peak blossom time of the 200,000 tulips planted by the city gardener is scheduled to coincide with the May 9-11 Tulip Festival. A former tulip queen, Kelly Conlon, was so happy to see the red blooming tulips from the 2nd floor window of our building
