Bald Eagle

Date: 04/19/2003

Number: 1

Believe we saw an immature bald eagle at the side of highway 48 just west of Coboconk, near Balsam lake. This bird was HUGE and in size and colouring resembled a turkey vulture, but with a fully feathered head. It stood on the shoulder of the road and took off as our car passed it. I was unable to see if it had light axillar patches because of the angle at which it stood and took flight - only its back and back of the head, could be seen at a 3/4 angle. Would be interested to hear if anyone else has had a similar sighting in the area.
