I am amazed. We have had so many birds so early. Right now, in our back woods, the male Ruffed Grouse is displaying for his intended in a pine tree. In just the past two days we've seen Cardinals, Kinglets, all the beautiful colored sparrows including Fox Sparrows (3) and White Throats. We had a Towhee back there this morning. I've never seen a Towhee back there. But the one that amazes me the most--I saw a warbler yesterday. A warbler. Never in April, never this early. Always, in mid-May, maybe. But sure enough, a Myrtle warbler. We have had some bugs about (even saw a dragonfly go by) but I didn't think enough for birds yet. No leaf out. Our leaves won't pop out until May. However, also yesterday there were at least 5 Hermit Thrush in the yard. I must be wrong about the bug situation. The weather sure isn't co-operating with these poor early birds. Gray and cold.
