Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 04/23/2003

Number: 1

Our second grade students have reported seeing monarchs in our area. We have found several dead monarchs that seemed to have very tattered wings. One of our mothers has been very successful in locating milkweed with eggs and we are raising them in our classroom. The last two years we have not been able to locate milkweed on our school property. We think this is happening because of the large construction job that is happenng adjacent to our school property.

We are discovering that the problem of egg dumping that existed last year is not occurring this year. There seems to be plenty of milkweed in the pastures this year.
