Loon (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/02/2003

Number: 1

The last pieces of ice went off the pond last weekend. One loon appeared on Saturday morning (5/3), while another appeared a few hours later. Both were fishing and making plenty of noise by evening. There are usually several loons later in the season, which I'd expect will arrive soon. The lake usually has at least 2 pair, but babies are raised on the pond before they are adults and ready to move on to their own region. We counted 15 one year on the 4th of July in front the camp!
