Thursday, seventh graders captured three monarchs west of Victoria, little to no fade, two males, one female. Seventh graders netted and inspected five monarchs over the weekend in western Victoria County, two large, very faded males plus two males and a female showing little to no fade. Second year of concentrating on remigrants in DeWitt County, between San Antonio and the Texas mid-coast, seeing twenty-five to fifty some afternoons in mid-April not unusual, even loose clustering in hackberry trees late in the day. Released over one hundred tagged monarchs from school this spring -- northbound! Warm, 88 to 91 dF highs, 75 to 77 dF lows, dry, strong south to southeast winds.
