Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/16/2003

Number: 1

We saw our first monarch (sex not determined, fairly bright colored individual) flying around our garden at 1500 feet, Cat Rock Mountain, Nelson County, VA. on 16 May 2003. We were unable to catch it, saw it nectaring on Comfrey flowers.

17 May LPB checked our 20 or so Asclepias syriaca clone shoots in front garden (in early bud stage, about 18 inches hight), found no eggs.
