Yesterday I saw my first milkweed here in Blue Earth, MN (south
central MN almost on the Iowa border). This is much later than in years past. I noticed that there have been milkweed sightings farther north in Central MN. I have been speculating about why that might be. The only thought I have is that in my area there was very little snow cover this winter; I have heard people say the frost went very deep. I know that in Central MN there was plenty of snow, and perhaps the frost was not so deep. Does anyone know?
I still have not seen any monarchs yet this year--they must be
cleverly monitoring the milkweed situation.
