Robin (First SEEN)

Date: 05/19/2003

Number: 1

Just returned from a field camp approximately 270 km ENE of Inuvik (68.880138 lat 127.039515 long). The area is about 75 km from the arctic coast. We were weathered in for a number of days so have not been able to get in touch with you. Weather has been quite bad--snow, freezing rain, and fog. At any rate, the robins arrived in this area on 19 May. Saw quite a few small flocks of 6-8 birds in the area around the camp. The robins appeared to be feeding on berries that overwintered
on dwarf bushes in the area--ground is still frozen. Still lots of snow cover but if we finally get some good weather soon the snow will go fast. Got in quite late last night so have not yet been able to check around Inuvik to see if they are here as well, but suspect they must have arrived here while I was out in the field.

During the past week many of the migratory waterfowl also arrived. (A Northern Observation Post)
