Monarch Egg (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/31/2003

Number: 1

A dozen eggs! Our first monarch eggs of the season were counted at the neighbors this weekend. In the Enzenauers yard, (Kirk and Sheila), their two daughters and my son discovered 12 eggs on about 40 common milkweed plants. Most eggs were located on a single plant but a few plants had two eggs each. Most eggs were on the undersides of leaves, but 3 had them on the top side. Friday was a very windy day with gusts into the 30 and 40 mph range. Saturday, the temps were in the 70's and less windy. It is supposed to turn cooler later this week. Larvae reports will follow soon!
