Red-winged Blackbird (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/28/2003

Number: 1

The Redwinged blackbird usually arrives mid may before June and before the Hummers.
This yr they were a bit late May maybe due to the weather on the way, but I saw one then saw several more a few days later on our ponds on the rushers. We then knew spring was coming.
Now they come to the feeders daily and give their thanks by their lovely song.
The hummers we have been coming here for at least the 25yr I've lived here on the ranch. They arrive around the lst wk of June. I believe they must be the Rufuous as I have not seen any red neck hummers. Usually the males come first in their brillant green, rust and emerald colours, then the females appear to arrive a wk later or at least thats when I see them come to the feeders. I usually put the feeders up around May 1. They continue to stay here during the summer but I do not know where they nest. They love our Hawthorne trees, we have two and several feeders for them there. We also put up a small bird bath for them this yr as an experiem
