Barn Swallow (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/15/2003

Number: 1

I just found this site so late in posting sightings...but the swallows come early May here and have for the 25yr I've lived here on this ranch in Pend Oreille Co Washington, on the east side of the Pend Oreille River. I call them the scissortail swallow, so I assume we speak of the small iridescent green lovely little creature that loves to dive bomb me when they arrive as if to say, we are here mom. They actually will sit on the house wires and if I talk to them, they cock their heads hither and there as if to try to communicate. Many nest under the eaves of my roof in old vent holes, the rest of them do nest in our barn. I enjoy the ones on my deck as I can sit and talk and watch them preform their aeroacrobatics which they appear very good in doing. They are wonderful to watch and listen to their song.
