Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 06/13/2003

Number: 1

Our first hummingbird, Brewster, began tapping very definately on the kitchen window exactly where the window feeder hung last year. He then sat dejectedly on the dead branch secured to the dog run, a poor forgotten lil' bird. So our first arrival came May 21, the same day 10 minutes later the first feeder of 2003 was hung!
He brought along a ladybird, but that's all we've seen until today, June 13 - hummer traffic has picked up considerately, with the feeder constantly busy at both my house and my mom-in-law's about a 1/16 of a mile west.
Haven't decided how many new arrivals, but all seem to be female so far. We usually only have one male, Brewster. A rather brash creature that one, he dares drink from feeders as you try to hang them. Doubt he'll mind having a harem again this year.
