Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Number: 1

This evening I found a 2nd instar? caterpillar...I found the chew marks and I could barely see the caterpillar. This make the 5th for the year and I am waiting for the 4 chrysalises to change and that should happening in about a week. I am going to try to raise caterpillars and butterflies in an enclosed tent and since I have flowers and mildweed in containers this should work. Has anyone else done this? I have a class to teach the 3rd week of July and hoping to have some caterpillars to show the class. Have seen a few sporatic sightings, but the weather has been wet and cold this spring, but the next week is going to be HOT (mid to upper 80's). Should be a good week to see them in the yard. The milkweed and white swamp milkweed are 3 feet tall. I will be out most of the week in the gardens, getting ready for my first garden tour.
