Counted 2 Monarchs yesterday, one at mom-in-law's nectaring on flowers in her yard and one enjoying my butterfly garden at home, a quarter mile away. Believe they are summer residents as they seemed comfortable and at ease. The addition of a splashing fountain that misses it's basin, seems to have really increased butterfly visits. I see a lovely lemon yellow swallowtail several times a day, enjoying the wet sand - "puddling" I think it's called. Both the swallowtail and a big black b'fly are regulars. The monarch seems to be drawn more to my big garden, maybe it's a non-puddler! I'm busy weeding and setting out the baby plants from my light garden, adding lots of zinnias, which the b'fly's seem to really like.
