Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 06/23/2003

Number: 1

I was packing up my classroom for the year and spotted a monarch in our milkweed garden. It was a female. I have 10 chrysalises in the room and two emerged today. About 3 years ago we planted three milkweed plants in a patch of ground that is about 3' x 20'. It is now loaded with blooming milkweed and attracting many kinds of butterflies, bees, and other insects. I am amazed that this small piece of soil behind my classroom can be such a rich resourse for insects. Have a great summer!
