Observed an adult loon with a young loon approximately 2/3 adult size and in the grey color phase, offshore of the north side of the west end of Michigan Island very near the slough. Both birds were diving and the adult gave an alarm call to the young bird as our boat passed nearby (about 200'). This strongly indicates the presence of a probable successful nest in the slough area.

This sighting was also reported to Julie Van Stappen of AINLS via her voice mail. Is this the place to report sightings for loon watch?
