June started out with cool weather and nights into the 40's. On 5 June found my first monarch caterpillars on the Swamp Milkweed. Kept looking around and on the 8th found eggs on various milkweeds, Tuberosa, Swamp and on the Swamp milkweeds that I have growing in pots. After that eggs were everywhere. I was bringing them indoors to raise and protect from predators. Was getting to be a big chore keeping up with all the frass and milkweed leaves that I was happy to take a break for a two week vacation. By this time I had 45 Monarchs released or in chrysalis. That is quite a number for this time of year!
Came back from vacation and started up again. Since then I have released 25 more monarchs. Out of this batch I kept track of the sexes and they are about even. I still have many more caterpillars and eggs.
