My usual observation area at Choctaw Trails in southwest Jackson, MS was inadvertantly mowed last week leaving only a few milkweed plants in the ditches and other areas too difficult to reach with tractors. Today I went out to check the status of the fields and found the surviving plants to be loaded with eggs and larvae. In about 5 minutes time I found 15 eggs and a dozen 2nd and 3rd instar larvae on Asclepias viridis plants. Two females were also observed in flight through the fields but they were not ovipositing or nectaring.
