Signs of Fall

Date: 08/29/2003

Number: 1

The hummingbirds, particularly two females, are guarding the feeders agressively and all our beauties are eating in "double-time"...fun to watch, but a sign of bulking up for their upcoming migration...

It's downright comical, and sometimes a bit scary, to watch and listen to the futile attempts at hoarding/"this is mine" - and so is this - and this - and....that goes on in the yard at this time of year. Fortunately, there is plenty enough for all and is spread throughout the yard, so it is impossible for these "bullies" to keep the others from eating their fill.

It feels great to know they get a good start for their long journey, but it's sad to know they will be leaving in the next month, but I know they will return as a welcome sign of Spring 2004!
