Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 08/29/2003

Number: 1

There was a fresh monarch nectaring on one of the butterfly bushes in the backyard late this afternoon. I also found 2 larva
(3rd) instar munching on a new patch of common milkweed that was planted this spring. Our summer has been wetter and cooler than normal. I have seen monarchs in low numbers off and on since August 1st. We were in NE MN in late July (biking on the Willard Munger Trail) and saw lots of monarchs between Carlton and Duluth. Plan to check out another milkweed patch in the field tomorrow.
