Signs of Fall

Date: 08/31/2003

Number: 1

After the eye of the second tropical system in eight weeks passed by yesterday (Claudette and Grace), we have a backyard with many Ruby-Throated Hummingbirds. Mature males, immature males, and females are fighting over feeders plus are visiting the scarlet and red native plants we have planted in our wildscape for birds and butterflies. We have seen no more than eight at once but that may increase to eighty in a day or two as they arrive here along the Texas mid coast and "tank up" before they get ready jump off and fly across the Gulf to the Yucatan or continue down and around to Mexico. Did have one Rufous a few hours ago. A line of showers came by about two and there was a small "fall out" as the number of RT's suddenly tripled.
