There was a large westerly movement of monarchs along
the north shore of Lake Ontario from at least Oshawa
to Oakville on Sunday. I decided late on Sunday to
also check out Rod Murray's Oakville monarch haven
about 5:30 pm and the area was filled with monarchs.
What really impressed me as the sun was setting was
the number of monarchs coasting along at extremely
high altitude in a direct westerly direction (using
the sun as a compass?). I captured a few monarchs, but
these were readily replaced by others that either flew
in off of the lake or dropped in - possibly attracted
by the scent of flowering plants. Even as the sun went
down, some monarchs lingered on flowering plants. A
taggers paradise!
Expect more of the same today! Wish I could be there!
