The Holiday Beach Migration Observatory reported a big monarch butterfly migration day on Sunday, Sept. 8, with 1,380 monarchs counted during the 8 3/4 hour observation period.
The highest count in all previous days was only 50 monarchs. The monarchs are counted as they fly above the 40 foot observation tower used for watching raptor migration. The Observatory is located in Amherstburg, Ontario, not far from Detroit, Michigan.
