Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/15/2003

Number: 1

Walking outside to day about 10:15 AM, I noticed a large amount of Monarch butterfly activity, they were all close to the ground and flying about, and resting on the ground, just in my field of vision, there must have been about 50 to 75 Butterflies.
About 20 minutes later I drove a couple blocks to the post office and a friends house next door to post office, he asked me whats with all the Butterflies, thats when I noticed even more at his house. There were what I would think to be hundreds of them, flying and landing everywhere. They were in the grass, and on the street, as cars would go by they would all fly up in the air. I found this to be very interesting, thats when I came to the internet to see if I could find out more about them. I looked higher in the sky as suggested and saw nothing, these are all flying about 15 to 20 feet off the ground, no more. Just curious what they were up to.
By the way you have a very nice site here for the kids, Great Job!!!

These were for sure monarchs (and not painted ladies) and
lots of them. Now today (09/17) I looked again and haven't seen even one..... guess they must of
moved on.
