Signs of Fall

Date: 09/15/2003

While the monarchs have been rather skimpy locally for this migration, the Painted Ladies are present here by the thousands of thousands. For the past couple of weeks, every front yard in the neighborhood has at least 10 to 40 on bushes, in the grass, on flowers and just about everywhere else.
It has been quite the topic of conversation with most people unfortunately thinking they are monarchs.
To my joy I discovered that Painted Ladies also migrate in massive numbers from northern Mexico during population explosions.
