Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/20/2003

Number: 1

Carole Jordan from Laurel, MS was here at the Clinton Nature Center to present a program on Saturday, Sept. 20. We tagged a few adults that had been reared from locally collected eggs and placed larvae for adoption with some of those who attended the presentation. Afterwards, we went to the Choctaw Trails site in southwest Jackson to collect milkweed (Asclepias viridis) for larval food and observed one female ovipositing. Several eggs and larvae were noted as we gathered plants and when I returned on Sunday, to collect more, 12 eggs and 4 larvae were found on the
plants I brought back. We still have not seen migrants moving through the Jackson-Clinton area.
