Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/20/2003

Number: 1

Today is cooler, with cloudy and sunny periods. The
sky is filled with large white clouds, probably the
aftermath of Isabel. It arrived at Pelee as a tropical
storm, with winds about 75 kph. Gusts at Toronto
reached 72 kph. No major damage but many trees and
branches down across the province. Lake Ontario raged
yesterday and today, the strong southerly winds are
keeping the monarchs here at Cobourg on shore and
taking shelter on the north side of trees and shrubs.
At the Cobourg Ecology Garden, there are two clusters
of 50 monarchs in the trees and many monarchs resting
on the north side of the garden. I quickly collectd 30
for tagging and will check other sites as well.
Lovely, newly hatched specimens! Perfect!
